Muladhara means root or base: the base chakra is the foundation upon which we grow, and from which the kundalini rises. The root chakra is related to the physical body and the adrenal glands. It is associated with the element of earth. It is good to meditate on the root chakra for manifesting and grounding as the lessons here are related to the material world. This is the base, or foundation upon which our evolving life is built, if the foundation is not strong and stable we run the risk of collapsing in mid flight. Issues of survival, shelter, food, warmth...

Swadhistana means 'ones own abode'. The sacral chakra is located a couple of inches below the belly button. It is related to the gonads or ovaries and the etheric body. Associated with the element of water; good to meditate on this chakra for creativity and manifestation. This is the area of the body where we register betrayal and abandonment, lack of support financial and otherwise can also manifest as disorders in this area. The lessons of the sacral chakra are related to work,, sexuality and physical desire.
